At Croda, we understand the importance of sustainable manufacturing practices. We are continuously seeking ways to minimize environmental impact while conserving energy and natural resources. Our objective is to make sustainability a true point of difference for our business—delivering meaningful benefits for the environment, the people we work with, and the communities we are part of.
Turning the world’s products green
At our Atlas Point manufacturing site in New Castle, Delaware, Croda operates the first bio-ethylene oxide (EO) plant constructed in the United States for the production of 100% renewable, 100% bio-based surfactants. Using licensed technology from Scientific Design Company, Inc., the plant produces EO from bioethanol derived from natural, biomass-based feedstocks.
This innovation underpins our ECO range—the widest portfolio of 100% renewable surfactants on the market. By using an alternative route to EO, the ECO range significantly increases the bio-based content of ethoxylated products, reduces reliance on fossil fuels, and is manufactured using renewable energy. Importantly, these ingredients deliver performance identical to traditional petrochemical-based options.
The ECO range responds directly to growing consumer demand for greener products. It enables customers to achieve their sustainability goals without compromising on product performance.
Supporting communities and sustainability
Beyond environmental benefits, the Atlas Point facility contributes positively to the local community. Its expansion created over 250 construction jobs and continues to support long-term employment opportunities in the region.
